Single Cut Diamonds: are cut with only 17 Facets while Modern full cut diamonds are cut with 58 facets or 57 if the culet is excluded. French Cut Diamonds is one of the oldest styles of faceting that originated as far back as the 14th century. Beginning with it’s complicated origin and rich history it has always encompassed a deeply emotional connection with the wearer. It is distinctly recognizable by it’s typical “Cross” pattern that the Crown facets display. The traditional French Cut contains a Rhombus Shaped table sitting on top of a square or rectangular shaped crown that over time and depending on the cutters finesse and technique outline this square pavilion cut to 4 facets adjusting the angle of the original facets to allow for a high light return. These facets are then further divided in half to create even more facets that compliment each other in a dramatic fashion of light that spreads evenly throughout. The French Cut is in perfect equilibrium of reflection and capable of rather mystical feats. In essence it’s sophisticated impressions offer a depth of light that is unique to modern cut diamonds that is not only lost in illumination but in meaning as well.
Carre’ Diamonds: “Carre’” is the term for the archetypal square-shaped diamond, which has ninety degree corners and a large upper facet. These step cut faceted square diamonds provide longer facets that run through the length of the stone. What I love about these diamonds is the fact that you can see into the diamond due to the fewer facets.
Old Mine Cushion Brilliant: The Definition of this cut is more complicated than Single Cuts or Carre’ diamonds. The dynamic in the definition even by GIA Standards adds to its mystique. For obvious reasons I’ll simply state why I love them so much: Plush Pillow like in shape with higher crown angles & smaller tables with chunky facets that are enthrallingly hypnotic while viewing them....
